I Had Challenges Children Shouldn't Have

I had challenges children shouldn’t have; migraines, back pain, “growing pains”, abdominal pain, knee and foot pain. Being a child, I didn’t know this was not normal. I loved school and sports, so I didn’t let it stop me from participating. I guess that’s why no-one else knew just how much these things were affecting me.

Dr. Katharine with Tucker, our part-time Greeter.

During University A Classmate suggested I see a Chiropractor

It wasn’t until during university exams in the mid 80’s, a classmate saw I was in pain and insisted that I see her chiropractor. I went. I don’t even remember hearing the term “chiropractic” before that. Funny, I found out later that my father had visited a chiropractor over the years, with amazing results. Why hadn’t I heard of it?

My enjoyment of sports, sciences and amazement with the human capacity to adapt, was originally leading me in the direction of Sports Medicine. It wasn’t until a series of minor disasters made it impossible for me to arrive to write my MCAT (Medial College Admissions Test), and I had six months until the next sitting that I reconsidered where I was going with my own career.

Applying For Chiropractic College

It was during those six months that, primarily through my own chiropractor, I gained a deeper understanding of what chiropractic was and how it impacted so many lives. I decided that chiropractic with its emphasis on vitality and living was much more what I was seeking than studying sickness, injury and disease. Before the end of the six months, I decided to apply for Chiropractic College and declined to sit for my MCATs, a decision I’ve never second guessed.

My Goal in Practice

My goal in practice is to provide the opportunity for people to live closer to their life potential, and helping them to eliminate barriers to just that. Through information, inspiration and the chiropractic adjustment that restores function to the body, we provide tools for families to create great lives for themselves. Simply stated, when we live more fully, optimizing how we use our innate resources, we experience fewer health crises and challenges.

How does this positively affect lives?

The parents with the obviously distressed baby that couldn’t sleep more than 1-2 hours, would cry inconsolably, or refused to nurse more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time now see a happy child that sleeps, enjoys nursing, and is relaxed enough to interact with other family members. The 5 year old who hadn’t gone 4 months between bouts of antibiotics for throat, ear or chest symptoms is now into his 3rd year without an episode or the need of medications. The woman who came in with back pain and infertility now also reports a complete recovery from what she had been told was Irritable Bowel Syndrome, the recreational golfer who’s foot pain kept him from walking the course, not only walks but has been enjoying the game, his freer swing and lower scores much more frequently. When the body is re-organizing itself to work more efficiently, it does it all over. All functions are connected and I see people’s lives improve in more ways than I could have imagined when I started out in 1995. This is what I wanted to do with my life!

At Connect to Life with Chiropractic

My husband, Alain, and I recently built our home and my office, Connect to Life with Chiropractic in Brooklin in 2007. In the time since 1995 that I’ve been practicing here, the town’s population has risen from 1500 to over 16,000, but the small town atmosphere that drew us here still exists. We know the local merchants and business owners by name, we walk through Brooklin and see familiar faces, we run into people who are friends and relatives of people we know, my incorrectly addressed mail still somehow finds its way to my mailbox. The town of Brooklin will inevitably change, but the community still has the small town character that we love.

Alain and I are both quite active and when we aren’t at home or work, you can often find one or both of us at the local tennis courts, the golf courses, the baseball diamonds, a volleyball court or just out for a walk in Brooklin. I’ve done my share of traveling, and fully intend to do much more, but there really isn’t anywhere else I’d rather call home.

I enjoy being active and plan to be for my life.

That’s one of the things that motivate me to take care of myself now and create a lifestyle that is not only healthy and vital, but immensely enjoyable. Life’s too short to not be your best and it’s too long if you’re not your best.

Among the habits that I’ve incorporated into my life are regular physical and social activity, reading and learning, conditioning through stretching/yoga/pilates, massage, meditation and prayer, sound nutritional practices and of course, regular chiropractic care.

Dr. Katharine Asks some important questions of interest to Brooklin residents - Chiropractor Brooklin Dr. Katharine Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
Why do so many drugs require a prescription?
Because they can be dangerous? I chose a chiropractic career specifically because it avoids artificial means of pain relief. Our Brooklin chiropractic practice attracts health-conscious families that prefer a safe and natural solution. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
